Current CUB SCOUT HAPPENINGS  --

Cub Scout Pack 189 continues

with our vibrant and exciting program. Last month, we took a trip to the Battleship New Jersey in Camden. Once we went aboard we settled into our berthing area and had a fire drill. After dinner, we took a night time tour of the battleship and learned how everything worked. We also took a ride on the Flight Simulator. After a good nights sleep, we woke up and had a ceremony welcoming new members as they obtained their Bobcat rank. Free time consisted of a self guided tour. It was a great experience for the scouts.  Our pack continues to help the needy and our community. At our annual Thanksgiving dinner, we all brought some non-perishable food and donated it to the INN. We also conducted Coats for Kids drive to help the homeless keep a bit warmer during the winter. Our program continues as we will soon have our Pinewood Derby and Blue & Gold dinner.

The Tiger Cub program is for first grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners. There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub Badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.

Cub Scouts are boys in Grades 1-5. Cub Scouting is a family and home-centered program for boys in the second through fifth grade (or 8, 9, and 10 years old). The emphasis is on quality program at the local level, where the most boys and families are involved. Fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys are called Webelos (WE'll BE LOyal Scouts) and participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to become Boy Scouts. Cubs meet as a "pack" monthly and in smaller "Dens" more frequently.

Boy Scouting is a program for boys in Grades 6 and up (ages 11 through 17). The program is designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. (Boys also may become Boy Scouts if they have earned the Arrow of Light Award or have completed the fifth grade.) Troop 189 is a very active camping and outdoors troop that goes out on overnight camping trips year-round. The Troop meets weekly, and every summer we spend a week upstate at Scout Camp.

All of our volunteer leaders take training from the Boy Scouts of America. To contact us or for more information about our programs (including lots of pictures of our Temple's Scouts) please visit: Boy Scouts Troop 189. The Troop has a long history of honoring requirements from families who keep kosher or have other special requirements.
